about

A departure from the constantly-morphing, pulse-ambient textures of his Ethernet project, Tim Gray's recordings under his own name explore the more subtle side of the minimal drone spectrum. The four pieces on "Rain Spirits" center around field recordings made in Japan and northern California, filtered and processed through bespoke synth patches, accompanied by softly shifting sine wave tones. Produced during the hot summer months, the pieces were recorded in real-time, with no editing, to capture the cooling sensation of rain. As each piece was assembled, a distinct character or "spirit" asserted itself, contributing its essence to each track. “Rain Spirits” is a haunting, meditative, and expansive work, whose qualities become more and more vivid with each listen.
